Future Plans
The Walt Disney Company is always coming up with new plans and ideas for their television channels, films, and theme parks. Most plans are kept out of the public eye for years until they have been tweaked and finalized. The Walt Disney Company wants to give consumers the best things they can give, so this often means working on these plans for many years. For example, the concepts for A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., and Wall-E were all created in a meeting in 1994, but the most recent film wasn't released until 2008. This goes to show that Disney spends as much time as it takes (sometimes 14 years!) to make sure that they perfect it to the point that they think it needs to be before sharing it with the world.
Recently, Disney has announced two major projects to be released within the next two years. The first project is the new Disney/Pixar film, Brave. According to its IMDb page, Brave "features Merida, an aspiring archer and impetuous daughter of royalty. Merida makes a reckless choice that unleashes unintended peril and forces her to spring into action to set things right." The film is set to be released in June of 2012. The second project is a project to double the size of Fantasyland in Disney World's Magic Kingdom. The project will add more princess-related elements to that area of the park which currently features rides based on Mickey Mouse and friends. Construction has already begun and the first phase is set to open in 2013.
Disney also plans to re-release several of its films in 3-D over the next few years, due to the success of The Lion King re-release this year. The films that are planning to do this are Monster's Inc., Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, and The Little Mermaid.
Other plans include a Cars-themed area in Disney's California Adventure to open in the summer of next year, and an Avatar-themed area in Animal Kingdom.
